Holiday Fire Protection: 4th of July, New Years and more!
Warm campfires for your s’mores, roaring hearths during the holidays, controlled forest and crop burns – we have used fire to better our lives throughout the ages. We’ve also taken some liberties (pun intended) when it comes to celebrating our liberty and freedom on July 4th and ringing in the New Year with our loved ones all around us. As with all things, we must be careful, especially when dealing with fireworks. Here’s a little bit of information and how-to’s on how you can be cautious with these sometimes dangerous substances, and still have fun!
Don’t Be a Statistic
Whether it’s fires in the backyard, sparklers in the front yard, candles on the dinner table, or whistling rockets shooting into the sky – we all love to have a good time and celebrate the holidays. Piper Fire Protection takes these times of year as an opportunity to bring awareness and educate our community on fire and life safety. It may surprise you to know that per a report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, fireworks were involved in approximately 15,600 injuries in 2020. Even more surprising, is the fact that children under the age of 5 years old made up 11% of fireworks-related injuries. We can all work harder on being safer, and we’d love to share some tips with you on how!
How To Celebrate Responsibly
- We recommend you keep a hand-held residential fire extinguisher on hand at all times and if that’s not possible, have a hose or bucket of water nearby. You can pick-up fire extinguishers at any local home improvement store or you can call us to see if we have any to provide. Call us at 1-800-327-7604 today!
- Lighters and matches should only be held and used by responsible adults. Children should never come in contact with used or unused matches or sparklers.
- Keep Your Distance! You should not be within 10-12 feet of fireworks when they are lit or being used. After they’ve been launched and returned to earth, you should ensure that they are properly put out and have completely cooled off before disposing of them.
- Store your unused fireworks in dry, cool storage areas so as to avoid any potential damage. Avoid keeping them in hot places such as attics, unventilated sheds, outside, etc.

Have Fun and Be Safe!
If you’re curious about Florida regulation on firework use, please see the state law that Gov. DeSantis signed into act in 2020. When it comes down to it, Piper Fire loves to celebrate the holidays with everyone and we love to see our community safe. Fortis Family of Brands
Trust is built locally. It lives in the technician who knows your building, knows your local codes, and shows up when something goes wrong at midnight. It lives in the relationship between a fire protection company and the community it has served for decades.
But capability is built at scale. The training standards, the technical resources, the purchasing power, the shared knowledge of a unified national organization — these are the things that make a local provider exceptional rather than merely adequate.
Fortis was built on this belief.
Our network of regionally rooted fire and life safety companies delivers genuine local expertise in every market we serve — technicians who know the regional AHJs, the local codes, and the specific demands of the facilities in their community. Behind each of them stands the full weight of a premier national organization.
You build. You create. You push the world forward.
We protect it all.
